Whenever I see this message my mind voice would say “intha polapu unakku thevaiya”, but eventually my boredom gets better of me and I start exploring more profiles on FB. Some times I do land in profiles with interesting stuffs. The below is of one such profile which interested me a lot. Dont worry, you need not file any lawsuit to sue me for Privacy violation. I just want to share the ‘Activities and Interests’ which I found interesting. There were around 800 , few of which i didn’t understand (thanks to my poor understanding) and few got repeated. So I compiled those and put up here…

I am not sure whether idli for rs 60 is worth than dosa for rs 120. But I am pretty sure that dosa with Idli is better than dosa alone since both are offered at the same price. When no one would ever choose the second option (dosa unlimited for rs 120) , why do they have that option? Does it really have any reason behind that?.

In a week’s time I happened to read a book called “predictably irrational” which changed my way of looking at the world!! It’s all about relativity. The book says, whenever we need to choose from choices , we always go for the things which are “relatively better” among other options and this nature of us is being exploited by the economists. According to that book , The introduction of dosa  for 120 rupees ( of course that book had a different set of examples illustrating the same scenario) is to deceive the customers. When we find it hard to compare between two different entities (idli and  idli with dosa), they provide a way to do. By introducing an inferior option called  Dosa unimited (-B) , It not only makes us to feel Dosa with idli (B) is better than Dosa Unlimited , We also feel Dosa with idli  for rs 120 (B)  is better than Idli Unlimited (A).

Without doing any significant change,  the introduction of a dummy item pushes up the sale to a great extent. Ideally , when they remove an item ordered by Zero persons, the orders for the respective items should not change!!!!.

For example some one offers you a 10 rupee gift coupen for free or a 20 rupee gift coupen for 7 rupees. what will you choose?  to be honest I would have choosen 10 rupee coupen for free. Even though the second option (20 rs coupen for 7 rs) is technically advantageous, it’s human nature to be lured by the term called “free”.

“Anchoring” plays an important role. Assume, if an auto driver asks you rs 300 to go to Majestic from Domlur, You argue with him and  since you are one hell of a negotiator, you reduce the amount to 180. A win-win situation for both  since you don’t know the absolute hire for that distance. 180 rs has become an anchor for  future auto trips of same distance. The next time , even if a driver asks 200 you would agree since an extra rs 20 is not a big deal.

So this is my advice to you friends..

This is human nature and our manager is not an exception. When it comes to appraisal, he might use the same  relativity theory. Don’t feel shy. Be an auto wala, tell him that you had exceeded all expectations and been an outstanding performer throughout the year. He would point out your small errors and end up with exceeded most of the expectations. A win-win situation of both of you!!!

Who are all can contribute to Deepam Foundations?

PSG tech , ECE batch 2010 students can contribute. But this rule can be leveraged based on the success on  first year.

How much do we need to pay?
As of now, It’s set as 500 per Semester. Strictly not less not more.

How do you keep track of donations, spendings and expenses?

We are going to register this NGO ( Non Governmental Organization ) as a “Charitable Trust”. An HDFC account has been opened to maintain the funds collected and all the members will be posted with the transaction details at the end of every month.  At the end of each year a financial statement will be issued to all the donators/members which has the details of donations , spendings and other expenses.

What are the ways to  donate?

Every member joining the foundations will be asked to deposit their contribution using the ‘Third Party Transfer (TPT)’ facility available with the Net Banking or by depositing in favour of the account.

Who will get benefit from this?

As of now it’s limited to two economically backward  second year ECE students ( one guy, one girl). The scope and  number of students  can be extended based on the response we get in the upcoming years.

What is the criteria for choosing economically backward students?    

1. Caste is NEVER a criteria for choosing the deserved candidates.
2. It’s not based on the income tax certificate they posses neither an Income/CM scholarship alone makes them eligible for Deepam Foundation scholarship.
3. This is an honour system wherein student representative or student sthemselves choose a deserving candidate. When the consensus is reached among students and teachers (thereby we eliminate favoritism) we go ahead and sponsor the students.
4. CGPA and Govt aid/ self supporting will also be taken into consideration.

Who takes care of the of Deepam Foundations Finance? or Who is responsible for what?

After a little bit of googling to check the legitimacy of photo and video, I am penning down my inference!

1. Guardian‘s article shows that this image is being circulated in internet for the past couple of years.
2. The photos of his death haven’t even been released yet. So, yes, this picture is a fake. Someone took an old picture of Osama bin Laden, photoshopped it to make him look dead, then they (or someone else) took the fake picture and made a video saying “look! it’s all a lie! because this picture is photoshopped!” We don’t have proof he’s dead, but proof that a photo can be photoshopped isn’t proof he’s alive. 
3. Actual photographs would, of course, have an incendiary effect, particularly if they are as gruesome as they are believed to be. They may inflame Bin Laden supporters and sympathizers. Even if they release the photos, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect more fakes in the near future. US has made a good decision of not releasing the photos!
4. There is no need to spoil relationship with US’s ally Pakistan for a fake drama. Choosing a place near Islamabad Military Academy to execute a ‘drama’ sounds irrational! If at all they wanted, they could have done it in Afghanistan.
   
5.  A DNA match with Osama’s sister confirms that the corpse is Osama. We all know that Osama’s family is too big to have a ration card for them. If that’s the case why cant it be his brother instead of Osama himself.

Day two : Dhoni’s Law

Edakkal  cave(இடை + கல் = middle + stone) was the first one in our check list. It was indeed a nice place to visit. A kinda trekking, but the best thing apart from !000bC to 4000 BC stone carvings and the Sanskrit and Tamil Brahmi  writings was the pretty Punjabi girls from Infosys( whom we regret now for missing the chance(s) to get acquainted )
Second visit of the day was absolute bliss since our expectations were low due to the chaos happened on day before. Meenmutti falls could only be reached by 1.5 km travel through jeep  on rugged path and around one km pure trekking. With the help of rope and other natural amenities available on the one feet way we trekked down to the falls. For us ( who were starved of enjoyment) the falls was awesome and jaw dropping. During the return trip we had to walk inside the cloud. The hutch girls followed us( please note we didn’t follow them, it’s the other way ) form falls to Tea stall. It was more like Dhoni’s law. Whatever decisions we took based on our instinct worked well though we didn’t have any valid reason for why we chose Meenmutti instead of Soochipara.

Day 3 “A typical Trip”

A hardcore trekker would have enjoyed that 7 am Chambra peak trekking. Man, I tell you it wasn’t so funny for a normal guy to trek 3.5 km steep mountain. yeah, but it was ‘different feeling’ . Only one place can be visited so we didn’t want to miss Soochipara falls as Meenmutty falls had exceeded all expectations . It is indeed a good waterfall but nothing was so significant about it and  be remembered for a long time. I thought we should have gone to Soochipara first and then to Meenmutty. I felt like reading ‘Deception point’  just after finishing ‘The da Vinci code’. While returning we visited Phantom rock ( described in the bronchure as ‘Magnum opus of Mother Nature’). As it was on the way we decided to give a shot. Nothing more than a little piece of rock (:P) was there. Our voyage ended with a spiritual touch by visiting centuries old Jain temple.
And the ultimate end was the fight with out driver @ 1 AM on the road ( the reason behind this fight is a big story altogether). The wayward driver was too stubborn to get his money and he said he would collect it through his owner. But still this journey would be remembered for a long time…

The only good thing about leave was I played cricket in “real ground” (oh.. did i tell you that i scored 142 runs in 8 overs-  room cricket played @ VarsAllSeason Apartments Bangalore ).  Few kids were there in our playing eleven, and I was astonished  about their knowledge on cricket and IPL. They know each and every player in all 10 IPL teams (Is it 10? are you sure ).  5th standard fellow told me this….

Nothing significant happened in these five days apart from my purse with 4 credit/debit cards got soaked in a bucket of water for an hour. I have finished 100 mb internet usage per month in just three days by refreshing cricnfo page and lost rs 50 for excessive usage.

If you analyze both parties’ manifestos ADMK manifesto seems to be better. “Better of the worst” is the right choice of words i should use here. But Association for Democratic Reforms ‘ initiative website made me to think on a different perspective about election. Yeah why should i waste my vote analyzing scams of the current ruling party or manifestos and propaganda ? I would rather look into my constituency candidate’s profile!!! And i have decided whom to vote in this election. Taking three days off just to vote.. feeling proud

Here are the 6 reasons why I believe this movement is going to be a great success..
1. Anna Hazare Himself:

He is not any Tom, Dick or Harry, he is a well known social activist. He was awarded Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan (to name a few) for his social activities.  The most important thing is he is a Gandhian. If he had chosen an extremist way to fight against corruption he would have been entitled as a Maoist or Naxalist or some anti- social element and an encounter might have sent him to heaven.  An ahimsa way of fighting against corruption has attracted tens and thousands of people for whom this crusade would have been remained only a dream without him.

2. An All India Issue:

Corruption and red-tapism are deadly diseases which have been affecting each and every indian since independence. This ain’t an issue in a particular locality or ethnicity or religion. It’s a common issue faced by all Indians since the day1 after independence.

3. Media Support:

People are more interested about his movement so do media. Anna Hazare is making headlines for the past couple of days and seems media is giving full support to him. Media is a powerful weapon , remember the infamous 2G scam became popular and A. Raja is in Jail because of the very media.

4. A real leader :

Hazare is not backed by any political party. He does what his conscience asks him to do. He is not being instigated by someone to take an indefinite fast against corruption. This makes him more popular among the people . He is the only promising and ideal leader at present and people started feeling as if they are living the dream.

5. Mass appeal:

Gone are the days when people started hiding their ignorance beneath the facade of “I hate politics “.  Nowadays younger generation is interested in politics and very much aware of this movement and news is spreading in social networking sites like Facebook, twitter to support this noble cause. Movements have  been started in many cities. People from all walks of life are into it.

6. Practical and achievable

The Lokpal bill  for which he has started this hunger strike is very much practical and people have tried and failed it plenty of times. He is not asking our PM to stepdowm or to have a re-election. It’s just a bill that strengthens the laws against corruption.

I am planning to participate in the movements in bangalore if any. And I would also request the interested people to involve in this crusade. As a famous saying goes,

I must agree that it was an awesome answer to a guy like me! And one more incident in my office, just a couple of days back.

Time: 2 Pm , In cafeteria
Being an ardent cricket fan, I was sitting nearby TV and watching India Vs WestIndies match. Both team lined up and started singing the national anthem. After 30 seconds i noticed everyone was standing , including the chef bhaiya. Me and my colleague were the only persons who were sitting . That was very embarrassing man I tell you. We were in a dilemma whether to stand or not. Thoughts flooded in our mind to take decsions

Option A – stand now which  invariably means, we made a mistake by sitting and we regret our ignorance.

Option B- Sit as if you don’t know that others are standing or you don’t care to stand

We chose option B unanimously. Now I don’t through even a bus ticket in roadsides. I do stand whenever I hear our national anthem. But I don’t know why i hesitated to stand or I argued with my friend , may be this is what people call as ego!!! the beauty of mind…
